Two GTBUP members work in Greece

June 15, 2009

Chris Doyal and Dr. Mark Holley were invited to participate in the survey of the Pavlopetri site in southwestern Greece in early June. This is believed to be the oldest submerged city in the world, dating back to the bronze age. Dr. Holley and Brian Abbott of Nautilus Marine Group surveyed the site using the same sector scan sonar technology used here in the preserve. Chris Doyal photographed the site, the lifting of pottery, and documented the workers performing various tasks. He also created a photographic record of all the artifacts recovered.
